Who better to greet us on the Dumfries and Galloway page than this magnificent 'Belted Galloway' or 'Beltie' to his friends.

There are several herds in the area - an especially good chance of seeing them is on the way down from the A75 into Kirkcudbright.

This page could be very long as there are lots of things to see and do in the vicinity of the town and a bit further away. If you don't want to always take the car there are good bus services: SWESTRANS 01387 260133 or www.swestrans.org.uk for information and timetables.

So here goes with a selection:

  • Threave Castle
  • Threave House and Gardens
  • Castle Douglas - Food town
  • Wigtown - Book shops, Osprey viewing by closed circuit TV and Bladnoch Distillery
  • Beaches galore - eg Kippford, Mossyard, Rockcliffe, Sandgreen etc.

and our all time favourite: Brighouse Bay at sunset!

  • Rabbie Burns related sites - mainly in Dumfries but don't miss the 'Burns Room' at the Selkirk Arms in Kirkcudbright where traditionally Burns composed the 'Selkirk Grace'
  • The wonderful inland hills, forests and lakes including Glen Trool...

Oh dear! One visit won't be enough we're sure.

We hope you have enjoyed our website and its given you a glimpse of this beautiful, unspoiled and friendly area of Scotland.
